This half term, we took a group of our Young People and Foster Carers to FarmED, an organisation based at Honeydale Farm, a diverse 107-acre mixed farm in the Cotswolds. Their mission is to provide learning spaces and events that inspire, educate and connect people to build sustainable farming.
This visit is a part of our Sustainability Project, which aims to help Young People find their voice and role in impacting Climate Change. We also want to help prepare our Young People for any future carers or education opportunities that might have elements within them, focused on Sustainability and the environment.
We believe these hands-on experiences will help with that. As you can see from the photos, we spent the day exploring the farm, orchard and meadow, learning about their work to prevent flooding in the local area, getting hands-on with soil and learning how Clovers help to bring Nitrate into the ground, to improve the quality of the soil and feed the crops growing there.
We had an amazing day there, led by their education lead Heidi. And when it came to lunch, we had our bellies filled from their wood-fired pizza oven!
The day was an opportunity to educate ourselves further about sustainable practices, whilst taking in the beauty of the Cotswolds countryside around the farm.
Both young people and adults enjoyed it alike. We can't wait to visit again in the future!
