Frankie's Words on becoming part of a foster care family

Hi, I'm Frankie; I'm fourteen and my mum's been fostering for eight months. When I went to the Blue Sky fostering events, I met loads of new people like other foster kids. I've been able to make plans with them. And I've also been able to talk to people whose parents are foster carers and we've been able to know where each other is coming from and stuff.

It’s obviously made me feel better about myself, to know that I’m helping someone who’s come from a hard background, so it’s made me feel better about myself that I’m helping someone.

I’ve become more mature since my mum started fostering. I’ve had more patience. That's kind of the thing you've got to learn to have. My relationship with my mum has got better. I've been able to tell her more things about fostering and how I feel about it, so it's kind of... Yeah, it’s got better!

Blue Sky has been really supportive, ever since the social worker came around. She's asked me how I feel about it [fostering]. If I’m okay - all that kind of stuff. So, it's made me feel better to know that I can tell someone if there's a problem.

It's made me feel better to know that I can tell someone if there's a problem.

I hope the young person has a good future and has a loving home. I hope the young person gets the opportunities that I have, and that they get to do the things that I've been able to do.
