What relationship is more powerful than the one between a foster carer and the young person they care for? It’s the bedrock of fostering. Everything begins here: rebuilding trust, navigating day-to-day challenges, and learning to find joy in ordinary moments. These bonds aren’t just important - they’re vital, as well as precious.
At Blue Sky Fostering, these relationships are the heart of everything we do. Our incredible foster carers are on the frontline every single day, holding space for young people, guiding them with patience, empathy, and courage. Behind them stands the dedicated team at Blue Sky Fostering, working tirelessly to ensure these life-changing relationships are nurtured and supported.
Our focus, all year round, is simple but vital: to provide the right support at the right time. Whether it’s training, a listening ear, or simply being a reassuring presence, we’re here to help these fostering relationships thrive.
But once a year, something a little bit special happens...
Our Founder Simon Lockyer [pictured here with his wife] cut our cake, celebrating 20 Years of Blue Sky Fostering.
We received fascinating insights into our hormones and behaviour from Sophie Cartledge at Hormones on the Blink.
Ric Flo, motion graphic maestro, rapper and care leaver discussed his work and impact.
Once a year, the whole Blue Sky team comes together for our annual Team Day. It’s our chance to reconnect - not just with our values and mission, but with each other. We leave our local hubs behind for a day of collaboration, storytelling, a few ice-breakers (the less said about those, the better!), and even a bit of dancing. Yes -dancing. No one said we weren’t fun.
These moments together remind us of the power of our own relationships: the ties that bind us as colleagues and friends, all pulling in the same direction. We may be a team full of strong individuals (and some even stronger opinions), but Team Day reminds us just how united we are. United by purpose, by passion, and by a shared belief in what we do.
What you won’t see in the pictures below are the heartfelt stories shared between colleagues, the laughter echoing from breakout sessions, or the genuine inspiration that comes from hearing about the everyday triumphs of our carers and staff. That’s the real power of Team Day. It galvanises us. Refuels us. And most importantly, reaffirms why we do what we do.
So here’s to our amazing foster carers, to the young people they care for, and to the whole Blue Sky family. This is the power of relationships—and it’s what makes us who we are.
Take a look at some snapshots from this year’s Team Day - we promise the dancing was optional!
